07/05/18 – Tonbridge Triathlon

Over 300 competed in scorching conditions over May Day Bank Holiday at the Tonbridge Triathlon. The swim in Tonbridge School pool was followed by a challenging bike circuit, climbing up past Shipbourne, before an exhilarating decent down Carters Hill. The race concluded with a looping run around the sports grounds, leading to a sprint finish on the running track.

Mike Thompson impressed with a 7min 400m swim, 47min bike leg before finishing with a blistering 20min 5km run. The Tunbridge Wells Triathlete crossed the line in 1hr19, claiming 6th overall and 2nd V40. Oliver Gell (V40) and John Kendall (V50) also secured top ten finishes in their age group, crossing the line in 1hr26, less than 20 seconds separating the athletes.

Helen Waite enjoyed podium success, claiming 2nd F40 in a time of 1hr43. Amy Pay also secured a top ten finish in her age group, crossing the line in 1hr49, a 15min PB on last year.

Steve Lindsey raced over Olympic Distance, completing the 800m swim, 50km bike and 10km run in 3hr14. Consistent performances across disciplines will boost confidence having raced in testing conditions.
